Seth Godin on how to make money on the Internet

November 20th, 2008 by User ImageJohn Dilbeck

I believe that Seth Godin is a marketing genius and has as good an idea as anyone about how marketing and making money are evolving.

I’ve been paying attention to most of what he has been saying for a few years and I’ve learned a lot in the process.

Today, on his blog, he writes:

Make money: not by building an internet company, but by using the net as a tool to create value and get paid. Use the internet as a tool, not as an end. Do it when you are part of a big organization or do it as a soloist. The dramatic leverage of the net more than overcomes the downs of the current economy.

The essence is this: connect.

Then he goes on to explain 10 ways to connect the disconnected.

Obviously, it’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a good springboard for thinking about how you can add value by helping people make connections.

You can read the entire article on Seth’s blog: How to make money using the Internet

So, how can you help connect people and make money doing it?

Act on your dream!

This may seem petty, but I refuse to read Seth’s blog because he doesn’t accept comments. Sure, I understand the point, but my point can be understood also. You want to write only for yourself; create a website and move on. Yeah, not fair, but I figure that I hear from so many people what he’s got to say that I don’t have a need to read it anyway.

Kind of like reading this post. :-)

I did not know he did not accept comments, oh well to each his own. But anyway I did get a good idea about the ebay thing. Maybe I can put an ad in a local paper to try and find people with stuff to sell and so it for them.

I agree for the most part Mitch, so I never actually subscribe to blogs that don’t allow comments.

Seth is Seth though, so I will always read an article linked to like this one. LOL

Good afternoon, Blogging From Scratch, TV, and Make Money With Emy.

It looks like I missed a couple of comments and neglected to welcome you to our discussions.

I prefer blogs where I can leave comments, but that’s not the major thing I look for when choosing what to read.

I don’t always agree with Seth, but I almost always learn something new or am exposed to a new way to look at something when I read what he writes. In books, Squidoo lenses, and blogs, Seth imparts a lot of useful ideas and good marketing information.

    Act on your dream!
