My tweets on Twitter are no longer posted to this blog
I have been using Alex King’s Twitter Tools WordPress plug-in to automatically tweet about new posts to this blog to my Twitter account.
When I set it up, I was new to both Twitter Tools and to Twitter. This plug-in offers an option to also post a daily index of Twitter posts to the blog. I chose to implement that option.
A few days ago, while looking critically at this blog, those Twitter posts stood out like a sore thumb. Most of them are entirely unrelated to affiliate marketing and I don’t think they belong here, even though it is now my primary blog.
So, on October 8th, I turned off the option of indexing my daily Twitter posts on this blog. Coincidentally, I got tied up doing some time-intensive things that just didn’t leave me with time to blog, so nothing has been added here since then, about a week ago.
If you subscribe to this blog via email, then you haven’t heard from me for a few days.
Most bloggers think that is a terrible thing to do, but I disagree. If I don’t have anything worthwhile to talk about here, I just don’t say anything. Most bloggers think we should write at least one thing every day to keep the readers in the habit of visiting our blogs. I just don’t accept that.
When I have something to say, or have news related to affiliate marketing that I want to pass along, I’ll write about it. Sometimes, I’ll post several times in one day. Other times, such as last week, I won’t post anything at all.
The daily index of Twitter posts violated that idea.
So, now they’re gone.
(The crowd cheers wildly!)
I’ve been doing some research on several things that I’ll be talking about, soon. I hope you’ll find them of interest for you and your affiliate marketing business.
What do you think? Did I make the correct choice in no longer blogging my Twitter tweets?
Act on your dream!

I personally don’t post several posts a day – even if I write several. I set them to be posted later, so there is a nice rythm to the posts.
As for posting daily: depends on the blog. I have one blog where that has become the rythm – on others I don’t think it’s important enough. It does depend partly on the answer to the question: do I have anything new to say? I agree on that one.

Hi Katinka,
Thanks for your comment; it’s always appreciated.
I know I can set a time for new posts to be published at a later date, but I’ve never used that feature. Maybe I need to consider it.
I ask myself two questions, actually.
1. Do I have anything to say?
2. Is it substantive?
Sometimes I post things that aren’t very substantive, but I try not to do that too often.

I was wondering about all those twitter updates as I found them a bit off putting, but i didn’t think it was my place to say anything. My vies is that you made the right choice.

I just added Tweet My Blog so my posts would automatically go to Twitter, but it also now puts all those Twitter posts on my blog. Personally, I’m not crazy about it, but I’m going to leave it up for a little bit because I like that I don’t have to copy and paste my links to Twitter, plus I am an affiliate for the product. But if I figure out a way to eliminate the posts on my blog, I’ll be doing it. Stay tuned,…
By the way, I think at one time you were also using Tweet My Blog. I just figured out that we don’t have to activate the widget, and it will still post to Twitter; that works great for me.

Thanks for your comment, Sire.
I think I made the right choice, too. I try not to annoy my readers. Sure, some are interested in parts of what I write about, others in different parts, but there’s no point in annoying the majority – and I suspect posting those tweets to my blog were doing just that.
I’m always welcome feedback and opinions. Please feel free to comment about anything here. I may agree or disagree, but I’ll always listen.

Hi Mitch,
I like Tweet My Blog and I think Soren and John have done a lot of things right with it, especially since they corrected the problem with tweeting when you update a blog posting.
The main reason I decided not to use it on this blog was because of the way they framed my blog on their site. I don’t want that. I want people who click on a link in my Twitter stream to come directly to my blog.
I’m still an affiliate, but I only promote it to people who contact me looking for a solution to the situation you described.
Have you seen the Squidoo lens I built about this? It’s here:
Feel free to add links to your blog and Twitter profile and join in the duels, if you’re interested.

Hey John, may I first apologize for my obvious spelling mistakes in my last comment, resulting from my rush to do other things, still no excuse for slackness.
Anyway, now that I have your approval, if I notice anything that in my opinion needs your attention, I will be sure to add my 2 cents worth.

Hi John
Welcome to the club of those who don’t post everyday. For me, I write because there is something need to be written and not because it’s the right thing to do.
I’m a big proponent of quality over quantity and I’m sure you feel the same way too. I think you’ve made the right choice not to expose your tweets on this blog as it may not be what your audience are here for…
Glad to be part of your conversation and will be back for sure.
Cheers

John, I actually saw this post, but only because I was looking for some information on the program and saw that you were listed on Google, so I looked at your original post. I guess great minds think alike, even if it takes time to get there. LOL
Welcome, Yan.
I appreciate your comment and agree with you about posting every day. It could be that I’m not working hard enough on the blog, but it doesn’t really feel that way.
I feel better about my decision to no longer post a digest of my tweets here. You and Sire agreed publicly and I’ve had several people contact me privately and agree, also.
I’m considering adding those types of posts to my musings blog, after I have the time to update it. I had a couple of people tell me they’re missing those digests, but who agreed that they don’t belong on this blog.
Come back any time. I welcome your comments.

Mitch, I’m not laughing out loud, but I do have a big grin on my face.
It’s always great to hear that someone as smart and successful as you agrees with me!
