Great post, lots of good information and commentary. I like the way video rental companies are moving towards instant viewing. I believe each of these companies offers their own unique advantage on the video rental process. Amazon being that you have instant playability, and you pay on a per video basis. Netflix being that you have a set price per month, can watch DVDs as many times as you want, and have a large queue so that movies just keep on coming in without having to do much work. Then the appeal of Blockbuster is that they have the online service with queue the same as Netflix, but users also have the option of going in the physical store to return movies, rent new ones, and experience the physical nature of video rentals. I don't see this as the end to Blockbuster as it still offers a unique advantage in comparison to the other companies.

Yes I agree that features like Amazon Video on Demand and NetFlix are greatly superior and have surpassed and will continue to surpass traditional video rental stores. The ability to watch what you want at your own convenience is worth the negligible price that you pay for these services. Neighborhood video rental stores have already all but closed down, and I believe that Blockbuster and Hollywood Video are next. They just dont offer the comfort and convenience that the other services offer.

Good afternoon.

I agree, for the most part.

There are still a lot of people who prefer going to a video or DVD rental store and browse the aisles for what they want to see.

Over time, however, I believe that video on demand will become the prevailing method for delivery, especially as faster broadband becomes more readily available.

Act on your dream!
