Share your success stories with the world
I just created a new forum on a different community site and I’d like to invite you to come and share your success stories — large or small — with us.
I described why I started the forum and what I’m looking for over there.
How has positive attitude, persistance, planning, and effort attracted the results you want in your life?
Come and share:
Spring marketing and advertising
Filed under: Advertising and Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Musings
Now that I’ve gotten past all the problems related with moving all my blogs away from Blogger and learning how to use other blogging platforms, and bringing Mom back home from rehab after she broke her leg, I can now turn my attention back to what I was doing in December – earning a living with affiliate marketing.
I’ve been wanting to do more advertising, and, as my revenue increases, I’m exploring new venues for advertising my wares.
On Thursday, I wrote about Classified Advertising on Adpost and yesterday I wrote about Classified Advertising on USFreeAds.
Right at the moment, I’m excited about the possibilities of developing my Dilbeck Marketing’s Business Services catalog at USFreeAds.
I have several more online sites I want to test before I turn my attention to writing and submitting ads to them.
Do you have any classified advertising sites you like and recommend?
Why Blog, Anyway?
WordPress Wonderwoman asks, Why blog anyway?
That’s a good question.
I started blogging years ago as a way to keep a record of things I was learning. It was easier than building a website, and Dave Winer had introduced the Edit This Page concept with the development of Frontier and, later, Manila and Radio.
One of my first blogs was at http://johndilbeck.editthispage.com and with its second incarnation, still powered by Manila, it is now my primary blog. My I Succeed By Helping You Succeed blog is powered by Radio.
This blog is powered by WordPress, as are several of my other blogs.
So, part of my blogging adventures revolve around learning the technology and finding ways to put it to better use. Over time, I’ve spent a lot of effort wrapping my head around RSS feeds and syndication and do a lot of interlinking my blogs and websites by syndicating content between them.
I use blogging to market my business and meet new people. It’s just as easy to talk to WordPress Wonderwoman in Scotland as it is to talk to anyone within a mile of me. Worldwide communications is a huge advantage of blogging.
Blogging is educational. I read about 30 blog feeds using Radio Userland and visit others depending upon what I’m working on at the time.
Some blogs are part of my daily routine, others are visited when I find some blank time in my schedule.
I try to pass along interesting tidbits as I find them. Some are freebies and some help me earn a living as I work at home and take care of my Mom 24/7.
Sometimes it feels like I’m shouting from a mountaintop with nobody listening, but when ya gotta blog, ya gotta blog!
My biggest wish is that more people would comment on what I write. I would love to have a discussion. What do you like? What do you hate? As long as you remain civil, I welcome feedback, critiques, comments, and suggestions.
So, any comments?
Trackbacks – How to use them?
I’ve used a lot of blogging platforms over the last few years while I was trying to find out which ones I like best and which offer the tools and capabilities I want.
I did a lot of blogging using Blogger, which doesn’t support trackbacks, so I never really understood what they were all about.
So, this morning, I decided it was time to sort this out.
This blog is powered by WordPres version 2, and I have trackback and pingback enabled, so I should be able to point to another blog entry and the trackback should be automatic.
My first reason for trying to understand this was because I wanted to comment on Why Blog Anyway? and I wanted to see if the trackback would work.
Since I didn’t really understand how this works, I did some searching and found an outstanding WordPress Trackback Tutorial that explains much of what I was finding confusing.
I blog on several platforms, as I said, and my main blogs are powered by Userland’s Manilla, Userland’s Radio Userland, and WordPress. As far as I know, the first two do not support automatic trackback pinging, so I think I’ll have to manually enter the trackback URL in the URLs to Ping box when I create the new article.
Once I publish this article, I’ll link to it from John Dilbeck and Friends (link removed since I’ve moved that blog to WordPress), using a manual trackback, to see if it works as expected.
I can see that I’ve been missing a powerful tool in communicating with other bloggers. I’ll rectify that today.
I have been working hard to catch up

The last couple of months have been very busy for me.
I brought Mom home from the nursing home on February 23. She had been recovering from breaking a leg last December.
That’s why I haven’t been blogging about discount coupons and happenings in Cherokee County, NC. I just didn’t have the time or energy.
Now that Mom’s doing better and I’ve been getting a little sleep, I have been busy getting caught up with my online work.
Murphy, NC Business has been completely rebuilt and the first part of the site is back online. There is still a lot of work to do with this site and it will be growing over the next month or so.
21st Century Small Business has been moved off of WebMax Studio, where it was a test site for me to learn all the features WebMax offered. Now, I’ve rebuilt it as an article site featuring over 1500 business articles.
21st Century Articles has grown from nothing to about 300 articles in less than a month.
As of a few minutes ago, I’ve caught up on adding the special offer discount coupons to Syndicate Your Ad. You can see the current offers at ShowYourCoupon.com. Businesses, advertise free and pay only for results. Register your business for free.
Now that I’m caught up with all this, I’ll be turning my attention back to Murphy, NC and I’ll catch up on what’s been happening here and what’s on the horizon.
I’ll also tell you about some websites I discovered over the last few days that I think you may be interested in.
